About the Job

The mission of Sight-Hearing Encouragement Program, Inc. (SHEP) is to enable each person who is DeafBlind to live and work in his or her community of choice. Sight Hearing Encouragement Program is the biggest non-profit in the state of Oklahoma that provides vocational training exclusively to youth and adults who want to serve as an accessibility bridge to the DeafBlind. We currently have an exciting part-time opportunity to join our team as a First Responder Program Assistant. This position is based in Oklahoma City and its surrounding municipalities. In this role, the Program Assistant will support the First Responder Training Initiative by coordinating with local officials, leading accessibility awareness sessions, and managing training logistics. This position reports to SHEP’s leadership team and works closely with city departments, training participants, and other SHEP program leaders.

The Assistant plays a key role in scheduling CLEET-certified training sessions, attending city meetings, organizing program materials, documenting expenditures, and supporting the mission to expand accessibility resources for First Responders and the communities they serve. This role will help amplify SHEP’s outreach by providing educational tools and promoting awareness of DeafBlind accessibility needs.


Who We’re Looking For

  • Ability to lead or support CLEET trainings (training and materials will be provided)

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to take clear, concise notes during meetings and conference calls

  • Comfortable interacting with municipal leaders and community stakeholders

  • Experience with calendar management, scheduling, and coordination

  • Must be dependable, able to work independently, and exhibit leadership qualities

  • Passion for equity and inclusion, especially within emergency response or public service

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance

  • Must sign a confidentiality agreement


Position Benefits

  • 20 hours per month

  • Contractor position, $30/hour

  • Off all Federal Holidays

  • Please Note: This is a contractor position and schedule may vary depending on training requests or city coordination needs. Some travel may be required for in-person meetings and training sessions.

**In the event of client / contractor cancellation of duty day due to unforeseen events or illness it will be the contractor’s responsibility to communicate and make up the missed day before contract end.**
